misc

i am done with all the work i planned to do this weekend, and did it without stressing myself out or spending the whole day procrastinating and feeling guilty. go me!

last night, iceberg was sooooo sleeeeeepy that he fell asleep next to my head in mid-wash.

i am absurdly entertained by the fact that i know someone who shares needles with his cat.

i am wearing the cardigan i bought the other day, and it pleases me greatly. tomorrow, the jeans, and maybe even the shirt if it's not too warm.

Do you know how to deal with an excessively neurotic kitten? I've only had grown cats before so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Chekhov rampages around the apartment tearing up tissue paper, spilling his bowl of dried kibble, and nipping everyone quite ferociously. He's a maniac, maniac, on the floor. Is this just a kitten thing? He's five months old.

Sorry to use you as some Dear Abby columnist but you're so good at dishing out advice.

it's all the practice i get due to my inability to shut up.

re: kittens, that sounds pretty normal for a five month old kitten to me. some quiet down earlier, some later, and iceberg still goes on a tear at least twice a day and goes racing up and down the apartment banking off walls, furniture, and people until he gets it out of his system. he's like 10 or 11... i get hazy on dates that far back.

how are you fixed for cat toys? what i used to do when my guys were little was play with them near bedtime till they were too tired to act like little psychos. the Cat Dancer is the most effective cat toy ever devised, but store it somewhere out of his reach or he'll eat the paper bits. laser pointers are excellent, as are those fishing-pole kind of things with a bunch of feathers at the end.

my guys will still amuse themselves sometimes with little plastic rattly mice covered with real fur of some sort that i get for like a quarter at the pet store, but if i get the kind with feathers sticking out of their butts, iceberg eats the feathers.

Thanks, I was worried there for a while. Lordy, I hope he grows out of it soon.

You should really start your own community, "askmerde."

either that or i should stop telling other people what to do and figure out how to keep my own life under control.

amusingly enough, i tend to go ballistic when other people try to give me advice. i absolutely can't stand it.

especially when they're right.

I can see it now

"Dear Merde,

What's a foolproof pick-up line for scoring with chicks with big hooters?

Yours,

Dear Roger,

Try this: "I will give you a million dollars if you let me touch you."

It's not completely foolproof, but it's the closest you're going to get.

Yours,

Merde

Some friends of mine surprised the heck out of their cats with some radio controlled cars.

My current DVD project includes a hilarious clip where we introduced [livejournal.com profile] rothko's parents' cat to a battery-operated toy cat that moved its tail and mewed when someone made a noise. The cat stares at the toy with an expression of "Did that thing just mew at me?" We laughed, the mechanism kicked into life again, second time around the cat completely freaks out and runs and hides behind a chair, then peeks back around the corner at the robokitty.

[livejournal.com profile] swisscheesed and i saw an add for one of those on TV. we promptly looked at psycho_kitty, who was currently trying to eat everything and rip our skin to shreds, and said we should trade him in for that newer model.

i think he was none too pleased since he fell to tipping his bowl of kibble with much ferocity.
