everywhere i go, people are talking about how awful it is that Arnold got elected. the entire bay area seems to be cringing in shame. one co-worker suggested that the best thing he could do for California would be to go make a movie, and donate all the proceeds to the state.

the huge bandage fell off last night, so i replaced it with one of these snazzy new waterproof gel bandaid things that are supposed to form a protective coating over the wound and stay on for several days. so far, so good. and now i'll be able to get my hand into the gloves to do dishes.

it's looking more and more like [livejournal.com profile] kratkrat is going to end up having to bail out of the bay area for lack of job options, which sucks like a sucky thing that sucks a whole lot. we've already lost one gamer to the economy permanently; another, Brian, had to leave for a few months to save money and is now doing law school in Sacramento and commuting to the bay area for games; Dylan will be leaving for Vegas in a few weeks to go to school there. if Jeremy has to leave, it'll just be me, Pete, and Brian -- and i may not make it here much longer either if a job doesn't materialize soon.

i sent out a few resumes yesterday afternoon and reposted my resume on Dice and Craigslist. i need to create a whole new account on Monster because they broke something so i can't update my existing resume and they insist it's a problem on my end (puh-LEEZE).

feeling a bit stressed.

you know...

on the one hand, this map is very telling.

on the other hand, i'm a little disturbed by the number of people who have complained to me today about how "hicks" were responsible for Schwarzenegger's election, and how the bay area is "an island of sanity" and/or "the home of the state's braintrust" etc., suggesting that only us hip, liberal white intellectual types are actually fit to be making political decisions in this country. someone here at the client site just told me, "you know, democracy only works if you educate the populace."

i'm as disgusted by the recall results as any other hip, liberal white intellectual type, if that's actually what i am. but i'm creeped out by the apparent belief of everyone around me that it's not us, it's them, where them = stupid people, which = anyone who isn't us. actually, "creeped out" doesn't really cover it. what would be the proper term to suggest that every time someone says something like this to me, i feel like thousands of giant, snotty intellectual elitist snails are leaving slime trails all over my body?
