it's a wrap

Sun doesn't want me (i can't even begin to imagine why, but...), so i'm taking the Maxis contract. on the one hand, i'm thrilled to have work again. on the other hand, this is only a temporary fix, and it means i'll still be living on a tightly restricted budget for a while.

still. it is good. celebrations are in order.

  • called Maxis to accept their offer and ask if i can start Monday instead of tomorrow, to buy myself time to get my place back in order so i can make a nice fresh start.
  • picked up free 3-month supply of one of my medications from the doctor's office, thanks to Wyeth's patience assistance program.
  • gave the doctor a check for $100 and a promise to pay $100/month until i'm up to date and/or i get a more stable work situation that allows me to pay it all off. (this was my idea -- she didn't ask for it, and she asked me if i was sure i could afford it before she accepted the check. i love my doctor. and i owe her almost $1000.)
  • had one of those "oh god, why don't i have a camera" moments when i spotted a purple latex glove, inflated like a balloon, bouncing around the intersection of Van Ness and Sacramento.
  • spent $4 on three small graduated stainless bowls for cooking purposes at the everything's-cheap-korean-imports store. spent a good ten minutes mooning over cute glassware, but managed to resist. still, it felt awfully good to buy myself something not-entirely-necessary-but-very-useful.
  • bought a new comforter for $19.99, a pleasing plaid flannel in shades of brown, black, tan, and beige. see above re: feels good.
  • bought ingredients for the next few days' worth of tasty food, including a small end-cut of lamb spare ribs for a mere $1.49/lb. that i expect will be just enough for me. i love it when the meat market marks down scraps, odd ends, etc., because they're often just the right size for one.
  • changed bedding, including turning the mattress. new comforter is confirmed to be the R0XX0R.
  • put away the clean dishes and put another load in the dishwasher. i still have at least one load's worth left in the sink.
  • took some chicken out to thaw for coq au vin.

and now, i am sacking out on the couch watching more of season 2 of Farscape. Pete will be thrilled to know that the last episode i watched had a perfect "LEARN... FROM ME!" moment.
