mountain_laurel: (her kind die bloody!)
i've decided, after considerable thought, that i'm not going to be posting publicly about my more serious mental health/medication issues anymore. there was a time it was a good thing for me, and i hoped it would also be a good thing for others, but... i just don't feel like doing it anymore. so i'm not going to. this doesn't mean i won't talk about personal stuff anymore -- i'm just going to keep the really personal stuff more private. (and no, no one did anything that influenced me to make this decision -- i just feel like it's time.)

in totally unrelated news, don't bother buying the "EXPLOSIVE EXTENDED EDITION" of Bourne Identity -- it consists of nothing but a couple of extra featurettes (which are interesting, but nothing special) and "previously unseen" beginning and endings that are poorly filmed and edited and haven't even had the audio cleaned up -- and they're in stereo whereas the rest of the movie is in 5.1 surround. it's the most halfassed "special edition" DVD i've seen in ages.

nevertheless, watching the two movies together was a very fine experience. the first is definitely the better film, but the second has some really impressive action in it, and an especially nice explosion with an especially clever trigger, which made me squee with delight and rewind to watch it again. there's a nice featurette that shows how they did it, too.

i did notice that the sound wasn't as good in the second movie. the soundscape didn't sound as real to me. the first time i watched Bourne Identity on DVD, one of the things i particularly noticed was that the sound was unusually good, so that was a bit of a disappointment in the second. still, not horrible, just not exceptional like the first movie.

i may watch them again this weekend. i really, really like these movies. they're just about perfect, in my book -- meaning not that they're Great Art, but that they do an exceptionally good job of what they set out to do, and manage to satisfy all my action-movie desires at the same time. honestly, the only thing i could've asked for would've been more full-contact sex -- the sort where people do it up against the wall and throw each other around and knock over furniture, like in "The Thomas Crown Affair" or "Lethal Weapon 3". although i'm starting to believe that Rene Russo's presence is required for that sort of sex scene to be truly effective.

or, as [livejournal.com profile] madbodger would say, "This can't be the love scene! Where's the blood?"
