those of you who have visited my apartment know the desperately ramshackle state in which the elevator here has been throughout my tenancy. it's frequently out of service, and prone to malfunction when it isn't, not to mention being so beat-up looking that i've had more than one friend refuse to use it.
it's been out of service for nearly a month now. my knees are more than a little unhappy about this. but for once, there is a light at the end of the large intestine: Antonio the maintenance guy tells me that once again, the elevator failed inspection -- which it does every time -- and management has been given a limited amount of time to fix it before they're fined -- which they are every time. this time, however, they've finally realized how much money they've poured down the shaft of that dinosaur over the years, and they're actually going to replace it.
yes, that's right: my building is getting a new elevator. will wonders never cease?
(oh, who am i kidding? they'll probably find a crappy used one somewhere instead and it'll be no better than it was before.)
