i just got two phone calls.

one was from the massage therapist i was going to trade the printer to -- she has to take her dog to the vet and has no more time between now and when i leave, so no massage after all.

the second was from the supervisor at the insurance company, who tells me that they're "still trying" to get my therapist's W-9 "into the system" so they can process my claims. how it can take them more than a week to enter what amounts to a single number into their computer system is utterly beyond me, but it's not like there's anything i can do about it at this point. obviously calling up and yelling isn't going to make any difference.

so. there goes any chance of getting that insurance check before it's time for me to leave. sigh.

the Pacifica Resource Center has decided they can't pay for my rental trailer after all. the rationale is that it's just for stuff, and they won't pay to help me move stuff. they'll pay for a plane ticket for me to go elsewhere, but of course, that's useless to me.

sigh.

i could really use for something to go right in the next day or two.

on the off chance that everything goes wrong, is there anyone in the bay area who can offer me space to store about 15 boxes of books/CDs/DVDs/etc. plus a stack of framed posters and some assorted other stuff for an unknown period of time?

get me while i'm here, people!

7/17, Monday: Someone's coming at 5pm to buy my steamer trunk
7/18, Tuesday: rescheduled steamer trunk pickup for this evening
7/19, Wednesday: trailer hitch installation in SF from 11am-12pm; margaritas with [livejournal.com profile] loosestrife in Mountain View p.m.
7/20, Thursday: 'runch' in SF with [livejournal.com profile] mister_borogove noonish
7/21, Friday: therapy, 11am-12pm
7/22, Saturday: a.m., pick up trailer; afternoon, load trailer
7/23, Sunday: a.m., head south

i may not go through L.A. after all, since I don't have crash space there anymore; i'm recalculating routes now. i'll still be in Tucson the 24th and 25th. the 26th i'll be midway between there and Austin, and i should arrive in Austin on the 27th.

warren and shirley just bailed on taking me to dinner before i leave -- or even seeing me before i go. shirley says they're just too busy with their own move (they're headed down the peninsula this week to a place in San Mateo). i'm not sure i believe her. she sounded weirdly stressed out. i'm wondering if she's actually upset with me and doesn't want to come out and say it.

today just isn't working out for me. i'm considering going back to bed. maybe things will be better tomorrow.

thanks to the amazing [livejournal.com profile] sysd for stepping in to help cover the cost of the trailer for me. i'm definitely feeling less unlucky. (really i have no right to consider myself unlucky at all -- i'm very lucky to have so many fabulous friends who've given time and money to help me with this move.)

it's looking like it might be sensible for me to drive to Vegas the first night instead of L.A., get a hotel there, and then continue on to Tucson. does anyone who's done the SF-Texas run have an opinon on whether that's a stupid idea?

in other news, i just found a buyer for my bed frame. she'll be coming tonight, so i guess i'd better go start disassembling.
