the way things go
Jul. 19th, 2006 02:08 pmso this morning i headed over to the U-Haul depot to get my trailer hitch installed. while i waited, i walked over to a gas station to get a cup of coffee and a donut, and sprained my ankle tripping over some uneven pavement. not a serious sprain, fortunately, but it's definitely going to slow me down over the next few days.
when i got back, the U-Haul people told me the person who made my reservation screwed up, and they didn't have my trailer hitch, and that it would take 3 to 4 days for them to get it. i pointed out that i needed to pick up the trailer on Saturday, and that this would not be adequate.
they were actually really good about it. the nice man covered with gang tattoos made a few phone calls, located a hitch suitable for my car, and arranged for me to get it installed on Friday, with free labor to make up for the inconvenience. so i save about $100 on the deal. nice!
of course, then i had to go out and spend a good chunk of that on cat-transporting materials, but every little bit helps.
and now, after walking around on the sprained ankle for a couple of hours, i think it's time for me to lie down and ice the damn thing before it swells up any bigger.

by the way, i wanted to take this opportunity to point out a distinct unfairness in the pricing of collars and leashes. as it turns out, the same brand of collar and leash in exactly the same color and size (the only difference being whether it's labeled for "small dogs" or "large cats or small dogs") costs nearly twice as much if you buy it from the cat section of the pet store as if you buy it from the dog section. (let's not even talk about the obscene markup if you buy them from the human section.)
cannot something be done about this horrific injustice?
