May. 1st, 2002 11:10 ami improvised a lovely smoked salmon and asparagus risotto last night. very, very nice. why don't i make risotto more often? next time i'll use a little less salmon -- it was just a tad overpowering -- but this one's definitely a keeper. and Daddy-O was ecstatic when i let him have a couple of bits of salmon i picked out.
almost all the black dye is cut out of my hair now, leaving me with a vaguely calico near-crew-cut. it looks a little silly. i think i'll use a temporary haircolor to dye the natural parts to darker brown so it won't be so obvious.
in other news, after all the work we did to get the release out on time, legal held up shipping because at the last possible second they realized the license agreement had to be changed in all the books and all the installers. from what i'm hearing over my shoulder, we're shipping as i write this, so it's not a total disaster, but still -- i hope legal gets a thorough reaming over this. we worked so hard to get this thing out on time. it's a little demoralizing to have someone else screw it up after all those late nights.
looking back, though, this is the first time in my career as a tech writer that i've actually stayed on top of things and on schedule till the end. i've never blown a deadline, but in the past i've usually had a panicked last-minute crunch to catch up because i spent too much time procrastinating because i was afraid i'd screw something up. this time that crunch was due to the project running late, not to my flakiness. i feel really good about that. i guess this is the next step in my career -- feeling like i really do know what i'm doing and that i'm good at it. it feels awfully nice. can i just stay here a while and bask?
