white trash food
Jun. 4th, 2002 01:29 pmon my way home from therapy today, i heard a recipe on NPR that sounded so good i had to try it for lunch: Beer Can Chicken. they were interviewing some beer experts, and they had on these two guys at the time -- one who's an expert on BBQ, and another who's a serious beer snob. so the BBQ guy was talking about beer can chicken, and the announcer asked the other guy if he'd ever had it. the guy sounded absolutely appalled and started going on about all the snooty haute cuisine he'd had the night before with assorted obscure european beers chosen to go with each course, clearly trying to distance himself as much as possible from the idea of beer can chicken.
now, i'm kind of a beer snob. and i love fancy cooking. but honestly, does that have to mean i can't also enjoy beer can chicken? no, it does not. that guy is the worst kind of snob -- the kind who's so intent on showing off to you how cool he is that he misses out on potentially fabulous stuff because he's too afraid someone might catch him doing something uncool.
so i got a sixpack of Tecate (and another sixpack of Rogue Brewing Co.'s "Dead Guy Ale" to drink) and a chicken and a can of maple sugar baked beans and a couple of ears of corn and came home to fire up the grill. it sure does smell good out there right now. and it's all nice and sunny, so while i'm waiting for it to be done, i can finish cleaning up my balcony and repotting herbs.
feh. snobs really burn my ass.
