so the dinner party was a success, more or less. it was wonderful to finally meet
cyan_blue and
emmett_the_sane, who turn out to be just as cool as i expected. i was running a bit behind schedule, and i must admit my presentation was perhaps not all it could have been, since i became too hot and sweaty from cooking to care very much about making everything look perfect, but people seemed to enjoy the food and i certainly enjoyed the company. (although i'm afraid Emmett and i bored Geri and Tom with our in-depth discussion of Weird Al.) Daddy-O and Iceberg Slim were very sociable as well, and Tom's frequent petting of Daddy-O belies his claim that he doesn't like cats.
fortunately, nobody minded that Daddy-O was parked in the middle of the table until dinner was served.
i used approximately every object in my kitchen, only half of which fit in the dishwasher at once, so it's still something of a disaster area, but i should have plenty of time to deal with that in the morning before the gamers arrive.
a great big *smooch* for
tigresse for all her help, and another *smooch* for
gooley, whose 50-year-old Muscat was a huge hit.
lessons learned: prep takes more time than i expect. i'm really terrible at mixing pasta with sauces that include veggies. cats will drink from unattended water glasses, no matter whose they are. and poached pears in ginger syrup are really yummy even when the syrup doesn't really come out... syrupy.
