retail therapy
May. 17th, 2003 03:13 pmafter a hot shower, a couple of Aleve, and some tasty BBQ, i felt more capable of coping with the world. i hit a couple of thrift stores where i found that most of the things i would actually want were hilariously overpriced. (like a handsome 50s vintage tabletop radio with a wood case, in lovely condition but marked $45. in the Salvation Army, for god's sake. give me a break.) i did, however, pick up an old American Tourister suitcase in a bright, cheery red for $5.99, and this made me very happy.
on the way home i detoured to Cost Plus to get another big jar for rice. (i buy it in 20 lb. bags, so it behooves me to have containers on hand into which to decant it in smaller quantities.) there, i finally gave in to the urge to buy one of the Kilim-upholstered footstools i've been eyeing for quite some time. (they're only $39, after all.) i thought Iceberg would find it a pleasing addition to the apartment, and i was right -- within 30 seconds of my putting it on the floor, he climbed on top, clawed it experimentally, and struck a regal pose, as if to declare, "YES! this is a fine CAT PEDESTAL!"
overall, it hasn't been a bad day so far.
