i've forgotten most of the details, but last night i dreamed that i was writing a play, which was being performed as i wrote it. (fortunately, i'd cast myself as a scribe, so it made sense for me to be writing while i was on stage.) the play involved a feudal lord turning over his lands to the king after he was discovered to be a transvestite. the king was played by Peter O'Toole, the lord's daughter was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the transvestite lord was played by... [livejournal.com profile] tritone, except when he was in drag -- then he was played by Britney Spears.

on NPR today, i heard a great many truly asinine arguments for why the words "under god" should remain in the pledge of allegiance. my favorite is the claim that the words have no religious meaning because they are so often repeated that they amount to "ceremonial deism". this is just such a BS-rich position i find it incomprehensible -- it offends religious people and atheists alike. so far i have heard no arguments that makes sense for why those words should be there.

i finally turned off the radio in disgust when a woman called in to express her inability to understand how people can "hate god so much". for fuck's sake, lady, how can i hate something that doesn't exist in my worldview? (don't even get me started on the small but increasingly vocal subset of christians who claim they're being oppressed for their religious beliefs. anyone who manages to believe that christians are oppressed in this country really, really needs a reality check, preferably in the form of a vigorous bitchslap.)

this isn't an issue i care passionately about, but the idiocy of the arguments brought up by those who favor keeping religious references in the pledge, on our money, etc. sends me into fits every time. if you can't even come up with a convincing, rational argument for your position, shut the fuck up about it.

depressed this afternoon, by random reminders of how disappointing people often turn out to be.

on the up side, i got most of my laundry done. someone in the building is making italian food, and it smells absolutely heavenly. i'm thinking about doing linguine with clam sauce myself now, but i can't decide whether to do a white clam sauce or a red one.

in additional hot pro/con action, the pair of dockers khakis i ordered to wear for interviews fit like a dream, but i'm a bit annoyed that none of their plus-size styles are available in a non-tapered-leg option. tapered legs are so the wrong answer for big girls.
