applying for jobs in other parts of the country, in the vain hope that relocation costs will be a possibility. indianapolis, anybody? also, selling myself for medical research. or at least applying to participate in paid research studies. what the hell, you only live once.

in other news, iceberg is having a torrid affair with one of my sweaters. he kneads it blissfully, then humps it, then curls up with it and goes to sleep.

at least he's not one of those wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am types.

so.

i've applied for 20 jobs today, most in other states. (i did, however, eschew positions in new york, new jersey, and detroit, since those are places i do not want to live.)

i sent out ten resumes yesterday, plus i reapplied for unemployment, signed up for CalJobs (which will be useless, but is required to receive unemployment), and emailed the resumes to the nine recruiting agencies and one temp agency i'd promised them to the day before. so that's 40 resumes in three days.

i'm betting i don't get a single bite. although i am unusually well-qualified for two of the jobs i sent resumes on today, one in scottsdale AZ and one in honolulu HI, so who knows? and hell, it wouldn't suck to live in honolulu for a while. i happen to know that if you drive over to the dry side of the island at 9 a.m. on a tuesday morning, you can have an entire beach to yourself, and that is nothing to sneeze at.

but yeah, i'm expecting no response whatsoever.

last night, i turned some of shirley's leftover roast beef into a meat pie. how, i ask you, can you improve upon the meat pie? it combines the wonder and glory that is PIE with the soothing, proteinacious qualities of MEAT!

anyway, it's good. for the curious, i threw in potatoes, turnips, carrots, onions, peas, fresh rosemary and thyme, and of course MEAT, and made the sauce from vegetable broth thickened with flour. it was a homely pie, as my pastry-making fu is not strong, but it was a tasty pie. still is, in fact. i'm eating leftovers right now.

i spent my last $7 today on ingredients for a huge pot of bean soup and two bottles of $1.99 red wine from Trader Joe's. the wine is for coq au vin, which sounds like an awfully fancy dish for a destitute woman to be making, but hey, i've got the ingredients, and at $2/bottle the wine is cheaper than chicken broth, for god's sake.
