yesterday i did six loads of laundry, which is at least most of what was lying around. especially significant is that my comforter is all clean and fresh, and since it's supposed to stay unseasonably chilly for a while yet, i put the flannel sheets on. oh god, they felt so good when i woke up this morning, i couldn't get out of bed. the sheer pleasure of that warm, soft flannel against my skin was irresistible. i rolled around luxuriating in it for a half-hour, and was late for work. it was worth it. there cannot possibly be anything more wonderful than fresh flannel sheets.

my tomatoes have grown a little more, but my basil is almost dead already -- i think it's just too cold yet for basil in Pacifica. i'll have to get some more in a couple of weeks. i read the other day that you shouldn't plant basil until the temps are no longer dropping below 50, and we've been in the 40s every night for a week now, i think. and there's not even enough left to pull up and cook with. so sad.

i shared the elevator in my building with a Japanese couple who recently moved in on my floor. the man complimented me on my shoulder tattoo and asked about the design while leaning away from me as though i smelled bad. no clue what that was about.

traffic was unusually light all over the bay area today, and an unusual number of Maxis people are taking tomorrow off. is there something going on this weekend that i don't know about?

when did it become common practice to put cucumber slices on sandwiches, and why? i can see it on a veggie sandwich, but all they do for turkey and cheese is make the sandwich too big for me to take a bite of. hell, i have a hard enough time with tomatoes and lettuce; there are always too much of both and i end up pulling off half the toppings.

why hasn't anyone tried to assassinate Bush yet? not that i'm encouraging anyone, i just find it curious that someone shot the most-loved president in US history (Kennedy), but no one's tried for the most-hated president.

why do i always order too much food? (okay, that i can answer. portion size is out of control! i like to taste a little of several things, and at home i make small servings so i can do that; in restaurants, i forget thet portions will be too big.)

why is it that everywhere i've ever worked, whenever i hear anyone nearby lower their voice, i worry that they're talking about firing me?

why the hell won't the weather warm up? sorry, [livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane, but i've had entirely enough of your kind of weather for a while.

addendum: why the hell does anybody believe at this point that the shroud of Turin is real? and wouldn't this make it more likely to be a forgery, not less? or are they suggesting that jesus had another face on the back of his head? that must be it. i suspect Voldemort.
