Arts report reveals Johnny won't read.
OK, that's it. i'm going to look for some sort of volunteer opportunity where i can encourage kids to read.
addendum: i've requested info on this program. there's a similar one for kids in K-2 as well, but i don't think i'd be as good with the little ones. (who knows, i could be wrong, but right now, i'm going to try with kids old enough to reason with.) i do hope they'll provide some training in how to evaluate a kid's reading level and choose books appropriately, though... i may not be good at that, since i was such a precocious reader that i'm always surprised that most two-year-olds can't read yet.
so, uh... what do you tell a kid who says reading is hard when you're totally unable to relate to that?
