torture is NOT OK
Jun. 3rd, 2005 11:21 amread this and weep. and then write to your representatives. tell your friends. because this is important.
haineux says it much better than i can before noon.
i am bitterly disappointed in my country. i do not support the current administration. i apologize to the rest of the world on behalf of the citizens of the US, most of whom are appalled by or simply ignorant of what's really going on out there. with all branches of the federal government currently controlled by "conservative" right-wing republicans, there's very little we can do to fight against these injustices but make our voices heard.
please make your voice heard. even if it's just in a post to livejournal. but better yet, write to your representatives and express your outrage. let them know that we care about this. let them know that speaking out against it will not lose them the next election. and keep in mind that supporting our troops does not mean supporting their leadership -- a leadership that has sent ill-prepared young men and women off to war without much of the training and equipment they need to stay alive, and issued orders that violate international law and offend the basic morality of any culture.
there was a time when most of the world viewed the USSR as the "evil empire." the US was supposed to be the home of freedom and justice.
today we are the terrorists. today we are the evil empire. and we must be stopped.
