argh

i've mentioned my neighbors Warren and Shirley pretty often here. this afternoon Warren's father died; he's been ill, but he wasn't expected to go so suddenly. Warren had already left for Reno this morning to spend the week with his parents, and got stuck in a snowstorm in the Sierras. it turns out the tire chains in his car don't fit, so they won't let him through. he's turned around and is heading back here, and then he and Shirley will pick up some proper chains and head back to Reno for the week. i'll be watching their cats, watering their plants, picking up their mail, etc.

i'm trying to think what else i can do for them. i'm guessing when they get in they'll be too tired to cook, so i figure the day they get back i'll take over a big pot of chili and maybe a loaf of fresh bread for them. is there anything else people can think of i could do, or is that enough?

what a terrible couple of years they're having. it just makes me so angry that such nice people have to deal with so much crap while there are overpaid, overprivileged assholes driving around in Hummers throwing their garbage out the window.

I can't think of anything better than a big-ass pot of chili and some good fresh bread to have waiting, coming off a road trip from hell.

Nice people deal with crap alot. Overpaid, overpriveldged assholes onthe other hand don't. That's alright though - they miss the finer points of life. Like having a neighbor like you, for example.
