tragic BBQ

a terrible thing has happened: the burners in my gas grill are so rusty at this point that one of them has almost completely fallen apart, and i suspect the grill won't be safe to use for much longer. i have no words to express the magnitude of this tragedy. just as the warm weather is about to come back, i find myself soon-to-be-grillless!
all i can say is, they better make me a permanent employee here so i can buy a new one, or, or, or... uh... i'll have to get a hibachi. which actually wouldn't be so bad, except that i wouldn't be able to make pulled pork anymore.
like i said, tragic.

Date: 2004-04-12 01:48 pm (UTC)Such a condition is probably not terribly unsafe, but the main problem is you get BIIIIIG FIYAH on one side, and a little piddling flame on the other. Great for smoking, not so handy for general grilling goodness.

Date: 2004-04-12 01:55 pm (UTC)i never liked this grill anyway; C. picked it out, and chose poorly. it's bigger than it needs to be, includes a side burner i've never used (and which doesn't work last i checked), and other than the flame, which never did get quite high enough to be really useful for grilling, has two slender rows of ceramic "charcoal briquettes" that are both too close to the gas burners *and* too far from the grill, making them completely useless.
charcoal is a pain in the butt on a balcony, since ash disposal requires carrying through the apartment, but until i can afford luxuries like gas grills, it looks like i'll be having to do that pretty soon.
sigh.
