so. the guy says they'll approve me for the apartment if i can show a source of income.

the recruiter says he doesn't know what's up with the client. first they said i was at the top of their list, but they wanted to interview a couple more candidates. then they said i was still at the top of their list, but they might be hiring two writers and wanted to interview a couple more candidates. now they just say i'm still at the top of their list but they won't have a decision for a couple more days.

i know this dance. i have danced it before, backwards and in high heels. this is the "we really want to hire you but we can't" dance. it means either they've lost the job req (unlikely in this case) or that someone with clout wants someone else and is blocking the hire. either way, they're not going to come through.

so i'm going to hit up the temp agencies again in the morning, and if they can't hand me something right quick, i'll hit the retail stores nearby the apartment, just to have something coming in. (i could afford the apartment on a retail salary anyway, if it weren't for my medical expenses and debt; it's a damned cheap place.)

because i will have this apartment. why? i could say it's the big kitchen area with two windows. i could say it's the cute parking lot in which they paved around big old trees, which stick out in random places. i could say it's the uberhip 78704 zip code. but no... none of those things are the final deciding factor that makes me believe that i must, at all costs, have this particular apartment.

it is because five blocks from the apartment, past the whorehouse and the titty bar, is Ruta Maya, which is the coolest goddamned cafe/bar/club i have ever seen. the coffee is outstanding, the beer is cheap, the stage and sound system are first rate, the schedule is full of tasty goodies, there's a Tuesday night open mic, and there are all kinds of nifty random events. like afternoon tai chi with Guy Forsyth. Saturday morning workshops to learn Spanish through song. yoga classes. a battle of the sexes breakdancing competition. a benefit for the NCDSV. and let us not forget Mr. Steve's Drumming Extravaganza!

oh yes. this apartment will be mine.

I've been there, getting the pad near The Bar You Like is important.

good on ya for not waiting for the can't-give-you-a-straight-answer fuckwits, and letting their personal issues ruin your chances to have This Apartment. i want this apartment as much as YOU do. and ruta maya sounds fuckin' AWESOME.
