the embarcadero farmer's market is even bigger than i'd expected, but prices are much higher than at alemany. still, i got some dried chile varieties i'd been wanting (cascabel and kashmiri) and another i'd never even heard of (guachinango), some fresh sorrel (i think tonight i'll add it to some potato-leek soup), and a little jar of true lavender honey.

[livejournal.com profile] naomi_traveller and i were going to make pad thai for dinner, but we had so much lunch we were still stuffed at dinnertime. instead, we hung out just chatting and playing songs for each other. naomi earned iceberg's eternal adoration by brushing him, and charmed daddy-o with her singing -- he came to sit on my lap while she was playing, which he almost never does when there are guests in the apartment. (daddy-o expresses his opinion of live music by either hanging out nearby or going in the other room.) i envy her ability to sing quietly.

someone is bbq'ing and it's driving me insane, and i haven't got anything quick to eat around, so i'm off to drop off rent and forage for lunch and dinner ingredients and hunt for some sort of fly repellent or something -- they seem to be breeding on the ceiling of my balcony, and i'm iffy about spraying toxic chemicals upward, so perhaps simple flypaper is the way to go.

my tomatoes are blooming, and i've learned even more about how to properly harvest various herbs, but that will be another post.

[livejournal.com profile] naomi_traveller asked me yesterday about how to properly harvest herbs, and i decided i'd write it up as an lj post in case anyone else cares -- this info is scattered far and wide, and i had to hunt for it, so i assume other people have had the same problem.

knowledge lies herein. )
