i was just thinking...
Aug. 12th, 2004 01:38 pm...gen-Xers will no doubt be the last generation in the US to remember when you weren't allowed to use a typewriter (personal computer? who had one of those?) to type up your school reports because you were supposed to be working on your penmanship.
hell, i wasn't allowed to use a pen -- or cursive writing -- until i was in 5th grade.
we're old. OLD.

god help me.
Aug. 12th, 2004 04:26 pmis there anything worse, when you've finally been handed a project you can sink your teeth into and have already devised a very simple, elegant solution thereto, to have your boss walk into your cube with a 19-year-old intern and say "here, i ran out of stuff for him to do, so he's going to help you do this in the most fiddly, overcomplicated way possible because it'll look shinier that way"?
anything? bueller?
i didn't think so.

a side note to my previous post
Aug. 12th, 2004 11:06 pmthis is the first time in my entire life that i've actually been put in charge of another human being. i think i actually did okay at it, too.
essentially, we've run out of stuff for this poor intern to do, so they're looking for anything to keep him busy. they figured i'd need some HTML coding for a project they just handed me, so they sent him to me. (he knows far less HTML than i do, too.) he didn't like my first draft of the project too much, so i told him to take a look on the web and find me some examples of the way he thinks it ought to be. and so he did!
so i'm trying to figure out how to incorporate the information i have into that format, and then i'll draw him a picture and let him do the coding for me.
holy shit. i delegated. i'm... i'm... managing.
(i'll never be an actual manager, though. why? because it's the manager's job to know everything that's going on, and i chronically have no idea what's going on.)
