no, i mean, it's really, really hot. fun afternoon today with
naomi and her friend Paivi (sp?), who was in dire need of tacky tourist schwag to take home to her stepsons. first, however, we brunched at Greens. holy shit it was good. i had sweet onion and chard ravioli with roasted garlic and shallots, sauteed chard, pine nuts, and parmesan. i think there was fontina in the ravioli as well. one of the best things i've ever eaten.
then we drove over to Embarcadero center where we missed the ferry but spent some time ogling overpriced kitchenware before deciding to get on the F line to forage for the aforementioned t-shirts. that part involved a lot of trudging and heat, followed by a glorious respite as we sat outdoors in the cool bay breeze watching the sea lions while Paivi wrote out all her postcards.
then back to Embarcadero, and back to Fort Mason where I'd left my car. on my way home on Van Ness, i had to pull over for a fire truck and then saw two things of sufficient interest to recount here.
the first was a guy about 19 or 20, good-looking kid, tall, hair stylishly cut and the ends bleached blond, and dressed more or less the same way any guy that age would dress. he also had a big fat lip and blood running down his chin, and he was holding a sign that said "EPILEPTIC SEIZURE." he did the whole walking between stopped cars trolling for handouts routine, but i must admit i found the whole thing a little mystifying.
the second was an extremely cute, extremely butch-looking latina driving a black Jetta with license plates that read "AYY PAPI." that made me smile very wide.
nevertheless, i was very glad to get home, take a lukewarm shower, and change into my lightest-weight sarong. now i'm trying to work up enough energy to make a salad. i may give up on that and just tear hunks off the whole roasted chicken i bought with my fingers all night. i'm really very, very tired.
i should measure myself now. i must've sweated off ten pounds at least.
