641 of them cleared more than a million last year. 41 cleared more than ten million. and Terry Semel of Yahoo! made $56,848,880.00. the list says that's down 56.7% from the previous year, but this article says he made $230m in 2004. aw, poor Terry. let's hear those tiny violins, people!
props to Steve Jobs, of course, who's at the bottom of the list with an income of $1. he's a rude, rude man, but he does set a good example. besides, he'd have to quit his job to have time to spend all the money he already has.
of the 641 on this list making over $1m, 53, about 8%, were women. now, i'm not going to squawk that it should be 50%. it's a fact of life that a great many women -- probably a majority -- are much more focused on raising a family than making it to CEO (and that's a good thing). but even if that's true for 75% of women, this number is still pretty low.
it would be very interesting to know how much each of those 641 gave to charitable causes during the same time period.
in unrelated news, happy birthday to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who would be 147 years old today.
